EVALUATION
Need to find examples of designers that do both bread and butter work and personal investigation and examine how they combine the two, and what kind of briefs they do and for whom.
Need to specify what research can be collected while recording audio. This could give me visuals to work with in the design of a publication. My work will then start to take shape as i work with the content. This needs to be as broad as possible so that i have as much to work with as possible.
Have to remember to contectualise work for a broader audience than just designers."design...must be pragmatically understandable." Massimo Vignelli meaning it must be understandable and practical.
Also need to timetable some decision making points.

LANGUAGE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE
APHASIA
Over 250000 people in the United Kingdom suffer from aphasia, also known as dysphasia. These people find it hard to use or understand language.
What is aphasia?
Aphasia is a condition that makes communication difficult because an individual has trouble with language while they are talking, listening, writing and/or sometimes using numbers. Aphasia is sometimes also called dysphasia.
What are the Causes of Aphasia? Aphasia occurs when the communication areas of the brain are damaged and so affects each individual differently. There are some common causes of this condition. Stroke, head injury, tumours, brain haemorrhage and other neurological conditions have all been known to cause aphasia.
Does Aphasia Ever Go Away? Again, aphasia affects each individual differently and this remains true for the expected recovery from aphasia. While some individuals make remarkable progress with their language skills, others may take years but still see some progress over the entire time. Some individuals may recover most of their language skills, others may not recover many at all. There is no real way of knowing how someone affected by aphasia will progress.
Expressive Language disorder
Expressive language disorder is a language disorder/communication disorder that makes it difficult for individuals to express themselves in verbal communication. Such individuals often have trouble putting words together to complete a sentence or thought. Speech may become hesitant while the individual attempts to select the right word, verb tense or grammar structure for what they are trying to express. However, those with expressive language disorder usually understand language better than they are able to use it in speech so speech therapy is usually a good option for treating this disorder.
Receptive Language Disorder
Receptive Language Disorders are a type of language disorder in which an individual has difficulty understanding spoken, and sometimes also written, language. These disorders are sometimes also referred to as learning disabilities, and they are related to an individual’s inability to efficiently process language. While receptive language disorders don’t generally come to light until a child speaks, many are diagnosed prior to the age of four. Sometimes an individual also has trouble with using spoken, and sometimes written, language. When this is the case then a Receptive-Expressive Language Disorder may be diagnosed.Notes
These Disorders could provide a good context to put work into.
I could Use this to write a brief, they could form the client basis of a brief.
They could be the direction or subject for a publication.

SPECIFIC THEME
At the moment the theme of language is to broad, I need to specify particular niches within the overarching theme of language to allow me to define specific briefs and research directions.
I also need to consider possible design contexts for me to design for, this will aid in writing the briefs and could offer new sources content. This could also be given by specific niche themes.

ART FOR AUTISM
Art for Autism!
Artism is an independent organisation aiming to create a book bursting with artists/graphic designers work which will be sold to raise money for the National Autistic Society charity through the use of Art.We will gladly accept any donation of services or money.
All proceeds go to The National Autistic Society
What is Autism?
Autism is a life long condition, and a widely ignored disability, It effects education, social interaction, employment life skills and sometimes health. Many Autistic people have problems surviving the world we live in, as they have little or no understanding of social rules, relationships, facial experssions and common everyday sayings that most of us are familiar with. Because of all of these factors they often become
misunderstood and isolated from society. Usually they live in supported housing projects, or live isolated within their own autistic patterns. Many Austic people do not have jobs or structure to within their lives. It is now time to raise awareness of this condition, by giving them opportunities in which most of us will take for granted on a day to day basis.
Artism would not be possible with out the support and sponsorship of the following:
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
This is quite a good way to gather content and is also socially responsible.
This could be a possibility for FMP. Would need to find a cause to base it on.

MAINSTUDIO
The Amsterdam-based graphic design agency 'Mainstudio' was established by Edwin van Gelder
in 2005. Mainstudio loves typography, magazines, identities, illustrations and books.
The approach is a clear idea or form solution, always playing with the context of the information and looking for something unique in every assignment. The designing areas are music, theater, fashion and art. Mainstudio works together with photographers, illustrators and art directors
Amsterdam studio specialising in cultural fields. Their work tends to be purely black and white, which offers a certain clarity. Another example of beautiful Dutch graphic design.
For my FMP i would like to do some work like this. The design of a magazine could be a possibility, as this could allow me to delve into art direction, typography and layout, but also conceptual thinking. The problem would be what the magazine would be based on and where the content would come from. This could come from possibly either collaboration with photographers, but also writers and journalists. These collaborations would probably come mainly from other students, as they would be eager to write for a magazine.
I need to do some research into what journalism courses there are.
Alot of magazines are based around a theme also, so would need to consider what the theme could be.
